Your Late 20s Career Switch Won't Break You — Here's How to Do It Right

It was a Tuesday morning in March. I was sitting in the Kalyan railway station waiting area, coffee getting cold in my hand, staring at my phone. Twenty-eight years old. Three years into a data analyst role at Morningstar. Good salary. Decent benefits. A 90-minute commute each way that was slowly eating my soul. My friend Priya texted: "Still coming to…

After Three Failed Attempts, Here's Why My Portfolio Website Actually Matters Now

Two years ago, I built a portfolio website and immediately forgot about it. Not metaphorically. Literally forgot. It was sitting on a free Wix subdomain, collecting dust, with outdated projects and a bio that said I was "passionate about data" (cringe, I know). I'd spent a weekend setting it up, felt productive, and moved on. Meanwhile, every r…

Free Tools Won't Make You a Better Data Analyst (But Knowing Which Ones Matter Will)

I spent my first six months at Morningstar buying every paid tool I could justify. Tableau Public (free, but limited). Looker Studio (free). Then I went searching for the "premium" solutions everyone talked about—Alteryx, Power BI Pro, advanced SQL IDEs—thinking more features meant better analysis. I was wrong. And that mistake cost me ₹30,000 in s…

I'd sit there, earbuds in, thinking: how does this app know me better than I know myself? Then I started working in data analysis at Morningstar. And that's when the …

Should You Learn Python or Excel First as a Data Analyst in India

I spent two years learning Excel inside out before touching Python. Two years. Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, array formulas, the works. I could build entire financial models in a spreadsheet that would make seasoned analysts nod approvingly. Then I joined Morningstar, and within three months, I realized I'd been building sand castles. Not because Excel is useles…

Two Years of Using AI Daily — What Actually Made Me Faster (and What Didn't)

The first time I used ChatGPT for work , I remember thinking: "This is it. I'll never write an email again." That was two years ago. I'm still writing emails. But here's what changed: my relationship with time itself. Not in the Instagram productivity-guru sense — I'm still slow at mornings, still miss the 7:42 train from Kalyan tw…
